On August 22, 1877, during the fierce fighting at Lovech, the Russian army liberated the city from Ottoman rule. After the battle, the 319 Russian soldiers and officers who died were buried in the "Sir Pazar" area - west of the Osam River, exactly where the Russian units crossed the waters and attacked the main Turkish position. Another part of the dead was laid to rest in the "Cherven Bryag" area.

In the following years, in 1878-1879, tombstones and plaques were erected at these places, surrounded by trophy weapons - silent witnesses of that era. Cannons, metal laurel wreaths were placed next to them, and the alley to them was decorated with flowers and trees. This corner of memory was formed as a symbol of gratitude and respect.

One hundred years after the liberation, in 1977, the monuments from "Sir Pazar" were moved here, to "Stratesh" Park, next to the White Monument. The military remains were also reburied with honors. Later, in 2007, the monuments from "Cherven Bryag" also found their place in this memorial complex.

Today, the Alley of Bulgarian-Russian Friendship is more than a historical monument - it is a place for walking and reflection. Here you will also find monuments to the fallen Lovech volunteers from the Russo-Turkish War (1877-1878), as well as to Bulgarians and Russians from World War II.

While walking along the alley, be sure to enjoy the wonderful view of Lovech, which opens from the platform. The place is ideal for photos, for a moment of peace, or simply to feel the spirit of history.
