Vasil Levski Museum - Lovech

Welcome to Lovech – the revolutionary capital of Vasil Levski! If you are here, then you are already in a place steeped in history and the spirit of freedom. In the old quarter of Varosha, among cobblestone streets and Renaissance houses, is one of the most iconic places in Bulgaria – the Vasil Levski Museum.

This is not just a museum, but a real journey back in time, to the days of secret committees and the struggle for freedom. Opened in 1954 and moved to its current location in 1967, it preserves the history of the man who turned the idea of a free Bulgaria into an organized movement.

What will you find here?

The museum is located on two levels and presents the life and work of the Apostle. Vasil Levski is not just a hero – he is the man who dreamed of equality, democracy and independence. In the exhibition you will see his sword, dagger, the printing press used to make fake Turkish stamps, as well as an original portrait from 1870.

But that's not all! Here you will also find items belonging to his comrades - the sword of Hristo Ivanov (the Big One), the rifle of Philip Totyu, the revolver of Vasil Yonkov (the Glozhenetsa). You will also be able to peek into a copy of Levski's personal notebook - a document that reveals a lot about his character and work.

A walk through old Lovech

After visiting the museum, do not miss a walk through the "Varosha" neighborhood. Here you will find the Ethnographic Complex, and if you climb the hill above the city, you will find yourself in front of the impressive Lovech Fortress. Next to it stands the 14-meter monument to Levski - another place that you must visit.

The "Vasil Levski" Museum is part of the Hundred National Tourist Sites and offers the opportunity to purchase souvenirs. So if you want to take a piece of that spirit with you, you can do so.
